Xbox One has free built-in parental controls that you can use to keep track of what video game your kids are playing and how much time they spend each day playing on the console.
These child control features can also restrict the types of Xbox video games they can buy and play, in addition to restrictions on browsing certain web pages on the Internet. To set up parental controls, parents often create Xbox account for each of their children, which includes disclosing their age.
When a child turns 18 (in the US), Xbox considers them an adult and automatically removes all restrictions. You cannot control an adult account.
Here’s everything you need to know before letting kids play their first video game on Xbox One.
Managing your child’s Xbox account using family settings
Microsoft provides a free service for families that allows parents to monitor and set limits for a child’s account on Xbox One consoles.
To use this service, at least one parent must first log in with their own account Xbox or Microsoft on the Xbox One console.
Xbox and Microsoft accounts are one and the same. If you have an account that you use for Skype, Outlook, or some other service owned by Microsoft, you can sign in to Xbox with that account.
They can then invite their child’s account to the family group. Once they are added, you can limit how long they can play, what games they can play, and the ability to buy new games.
If you have already configured Windows 10 parental controls with your child, you don’t have to do anything else. You can manage their Xbox One games from the same control panel. Remember, Xbox and Microsoft accounts are the same.

-
Sign in to your account on your Xbox One console.
Xbox One allows multiple users to sign in at the same time. Do not log out.

-
Select the rightmost panel and highlight Settings . Click A on your controller.
-
From account settings pages, select Family Settings and press the button A .

The option called » Add child» should appear at the bottom of the menu. Select it and click A .
If the option » Add child» is not displayed, your child’s account has probably been registered as an adult account. This can happen when the date of birth provided during the registration process means they are over 18 years old.
It’s not possible to get an adult account back once it’s been set up. Even if you manually change your date of birth in your account settings. The only solution to this problem is to create a completely new account from scratch.
-
Select your child’s account and click A again.
-
You will be presented with a confirmation screen. Highlight Add to families and press A .
