Amazon recently added the ability to unlock smart locks using Alexa. Here’s how to enable the feature and how it works.

Previously, you could only lock doors with Alexa, as unlocking them with your voice was considered a security risk. However, Amazon has managed to find a way around this by implementing a voice code that you have to say to confirm any unlock action.

To get started, launch the Alexa app and then tap the menu button in the top left corner of the screen.

Select «Smart Home» from the menu.

Scroll down and tap the smart lock you want to unlock with your voice.

Click «Edit» in the top right corner.

Click the «Unblock by Voice» toggle switch to enable the option.

Click «OK» when the pop-up appears.

Then enter your own four-digit voice code, which you will need to say every time you open the door with your voice. You will need to enter this twice to confirm.

After that, you may need to sign in to your Amazon account.

Once this is done, the feature will be enabled and the toggle switch will turn blue. You are ready to go!

Now all you have to say is «Alexa, open the front door» (or whatever you named your smart lock). Alexa will then ask you to enter your voice code. Say the code and your door should open! You can also lock your doors using your voice and you don’t need a voice code to do so.
