Because you can use your phone as a GPS proximity sensor, sharing SmartThings with your kids and other family members is a great way to see who’s leaving and coming home. Sharing access also means that other users can manage routines. Here’s how to give family members access to SmartThings.

To get started, open the SmartThings app on your phone and tap the menu button in the top right corner of the screen.

This person will receive an email informing them that they have been added to your account. There’s nothing they have to click on in the email, but they’ll need to download the SmartThings app on their phone and create an account if they don’t already have one. They can follow our account setup guide to get started, but they don’t have to go through the hub setup process or anything.

When they complete the signup process, they’ll be shown that you’ve shared their SmartThings settings with them, and they can choose whether or not to use their phone to show when they leave and come home.

They will then have full access to the SmartThings setup and will appear on the Manage Users screen in the app. If you want to remove them from your account, just swipe left on the email and click «Delete».

Unfortunately there are currently no methods in the app to restrict access to certain features, so if you have kids and just want to know when they’ll be back from school, it’s best to grab a SmartThings Presence Sensor and attach it to your backpack or something. .
