The Canary Home Security Camera is an easy-to-use camera that connects directly to your Wi-Fi network (or via Ethernet) and lets you see what’s happening when you’re away from home. Here’s how to set it up and get started with it.

While the Nest Cam is one of the most popular Wi-Fi cameras available, the Canary is a popular option that comes with some pretty cool extras like temperature monitoring or the ability to provide humidity and air quality levels in the room it uses. in. Also, you can connect it via Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi if you like.

To set up your Canary camera, you first need to download the app on your iPhone or Android device. We’ll be doing this setup through the iPhone app, but the process is basically the same for both mobile platforms.

Open the app and click «Get Started».

Enter your email address and create a password for your Canary account. Then click «Next» in the upper right corner of the screen.

Click «Accept» to accept the Canary Islands terms and policies.

Next, enter your name and phone number, and then click Next.

On the next screen, you’ll choose whether you want the app to have access to your location, allowing it to automatically know if you’re at home or not. Select «Now» or «Allow» at the bottom.

However, you need to tell the app where you live anyway, so it’s just a matter of how the app automatically detects your location or manually enters your location on the next screen.

After that, select «Not now» or «Allow» when receiving notifications.

Then it’s time to set up the Canary camera. In the app, select the Canary device you are customizing, either the newer Canary Flex or the original Canary camera we are customizing.

If not already done, plug the Canary camera into an electrical outlet. From there, it will automatically boot up and you will see a white LED glow at the bottom of the device.

Press «Next» in the app until you reach the «Activate» screen, where you can select the Bluetooth or audio cable to connect the camera to the app. The Canary comes with an audio cable included, but it’s easier to use Bluetooth, so that’s what we’ll be doing.

Then simply tap on the top of the Canary’s camera until the light on the bottom of the device flashes blue. In the app, your Canary camera should appear as a device serial number. Click on it to continue.

Next, you can choose whether to connect the Canary camera via an Ethernet connection or use Wi-Fi. The choice is entirely yours, but Ethernet will provide the best and most reliable connection, and Wi-Fi is great when you can’t connect an Ethernet cable to where you want to place the camera. In this case, we will select Wi-Fi.

Select a Wi-Fi network from the list — it must be a 2.4GHz network, not a 5GHz network.

Then enter the password for your Wi-Fi network. and click Next.

Give your Canary camera a name by selecting a pre-existing name from the list, or enter your own name by selecting «Custom» at the top. Click «Next» when you’re done.

Your camera may start installing the update, but at the same time, you can click «Continue» to learn more about the Canary camera and the app, and select some options.

Once you’re done with that, your camera may still be updating, so hang on a bit longer, but when it’s done, you’ll get an Update Completed message and you can click Next.

From there, you will be taken to the main screen of the app, where you will get an overview of your camera and quick access to various features. Clicking on «Watch Live» will show you the live video, while «View Timeline» at the bottom will show you the saved recordings when the camera has detected motion.

When viewing in real time, you can turn on the siren and even quickly call the emergency services if necessary.

From the same screen, you can also pinch to enlarge the image, as well as rotate the device in landscape mode so that the video stream fills the entire screen.
