Now that Samsung has released the Galaxy Note 10 and 10 Plus, you’ll find that the traditional way to turn off phones doesn’t work. Instead, you must use a new keyboard shortcut or change its default settings. Here’s how.
Shutdown with physical buttons
On almost any other Android smartphone or tablet, you can turn off the device by pressing and holding the power button. Typically, this action launches the power menu, which allows you to turn off the phone, restart it, or perform other actions. The new Bixby virtual assistant opens on Samsung’s new flagships.
With the Galaxy Note 10 and 10 Plus, Samsung has added a new keyboard shortcut to launch the power menu. Instead of just pressing and holding the Power button (which Samsung calls «Side Key»), you need to press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time for a few seconds.
You can release both bases when the power menu appears on the screen. Now all you need to do is click Power Off and your Samsung Galaxy Note 10 or 10 Plus will turn off.
Change side button press and hold action
As mentioned above, Samsung allows you to change the default behavior when you long press the power button. Here’s how you can change it if you’d rather jump straight to the power menu instead of launching Bixby.
First, swipe down from the top of the screen to display the notification shade. Then click on the gear icon in the top right corner to open the Settings menu.
Now click «Advanced Features». The element must be in the middle of the parameter list.
