For years, Google has used your home or work address to tell you how long you’ll commute, find restaurants nearby, and show you the local weather. You usually don’t need to adjust this, but if you move or if Google guesses your address incorrectly, you can change it. Here’s how.

Google remembers two key addresses for you: home and work. If you’ve never set them, Google will try to guess locations based on where you go and how often you’re there (unless, of course, you’ve given Google permission to track your location). These two addresses are shared across all Google products associated with your account, so if you change it once in one product, it should be updated anywhere. We will look at several ways to change your address, but you can use the one that is more convenient for you.

Also, if you have a Google home page, there is a third «device address» that you can set if your Google home site is not at your usual home address. Skip to the end of the article to find out more.

Update your address with Google Assistant

If you have an Android 6.0 or higher phone, you can update your addresses using Google Assistant. First, open the Assistant by pressing and holding the Home button on your phone. Then press the menu button in the upper right corner and select «Settings».

Scroll down and click «Personal Information».

At the top of the screen, click Homes and Works.

Here you will see your home and work addresses. Click on the one you want to fix.

As you enter an address, Google will suggest suggestions that match the addresses in Google Maps. Select an address from the list of suggestions and click OK.

When you’re done with one address, repeat the last couple of steps to change another if you need to.

Open Google Maps to change your web addresses

If you don’t have an Android phone, or if it’s easier for you to change your address on your computer, you can do it in Google Maps. First, go to Google Maps on the web and click on the menu icon in the top left corner.

In the menu that appears on the left, click «Your Places».

You will see an entry for home and work. If you didn’t enter an address, click on any of them to fill it in. If you entered an address and want to change it, click the gray X on the right to clear the address, then set a new one.

You can also search «home» or «work» on Google Maps to find saved addresses.

Change your home, work and device address with Google Home

As we mentioned earlier, Google Home has its own special third type of address called «device address». If you have a Google Home but it doesn’t belong to your home address, you can set the device address separately. You can also use the Google Home app to change your address just like on Android. First, open the Google Home app and tap the menu icon in the top left corner. Then click «Advanced Settings».

Scroll down and you will see an item in the list called «Device Address». Use it to set a separate address for your Google homepage. This address will then be used when looking up information about nearby places, local weather, and anything Google Home might need your address for. Scroll down a bit and you can click «Personal Information» to change your home and work addresses. This will take you to the same location we showed you in the Android section above.

To change the address of your Google home page, click «Device Address».

Once again, Google will give you suggestions as you enter your address. Select the closest match from the list and click OK.

If you ever need to change your device address on Google Home, you need to do it here. However, if you need to change your home or work address, you can do so in any of the many places Google allows you to change them.
