Someone sent you a Word document, but you don’t have Word? Abandon Word and make changes to Google Docs? No problem; Google Docs makes it easy to import Word documents. And while it may not support some of the more advanced features and formatting of some Word documents, it works quite well.

How to Import a Word Document to Google Docs

To view a Word document in Google Docs, you first need to upload the file to your Google Drive. Open Google Drive, click New, and then click File Upload to get started.

Navigate to your files and click «Open».

In addition, you can drag and drop the file from your computer directly to your web browser for easy upload.

After downloading the file, right-click it, select «Open With» from the context menu, and select «Google Docs».

Google then converts your Word document into a Google Docs file.
