Adobe Flash sometimes called Shockwave Flash or Macromedia Flash, is a platform that many websites use to play videos. Finally, browser such as Chrome Firefox or IE needs a plugin so you can play these videos. What version of Flash do I have?

The easiest way to find out which version of Flash is installed in the respective browser, assuming both Flash and the browser are running, is to visit page Flash Player Help on the Adobe website. Once there, choose Check now .

In chapter » Information about your system » you will see the running version of Flash, as well as the name of the browser you are using and version operating system .

If Adobe’s automatic check doesn’t work, right-click on any Flash video and look for the Flash version number at the end of the pop-up window. It will look something like this:

If Flash video doesn’t work at all, you get an error related to Flash, or you can’t use the browser, manually check the version of Flash for the browser.

If you are using more than one browser, please recheck with each browser. Because browsers handle Flash differently, different versions of Flash are often used from browser to browser.

What is the latest version of Adobe Flash?

Adobe stops Flash Player release at the end of 2020 so they will stop updating and distributing it.

You can upgrade to the latest version of Flash from center Download Adobe Flash Player on the Adobe website.

Adobe generally recommends installing other programs with Adobe Flash, but this is not required. These are harmless programs and may be things you want on your computer. Uncheck the boxes for programs you don’t want to install.

Another option is update software . These are programs you install to update your other software, and many of them support Flash. There are a few free software updaters, that perform this task.

Restart your web browser for the new Flash installation to take effect.

How to manually check the version of Flash for the browser

Adobe Button Check Now handy, but if you’re running into a serious Flash or browser issue, determine which version of Flash your browser has before you start troubleshooting.

Here’s how to manually check the version of Flash running in each of these browsers:

Google Chrome

If Chrome starts up, go to the address bar, type chrome://components and then find Adobe Flash Player in the list. The Flash version number is displayed next to this entry.

If a Chrome won’t open fine, search on computer for pepflashplayer.dll and note the most recent version number of the file. The file must be in a folder named with a version number.

Mozilla Firefox

If Firefox starts, enter about: plugins in the address bar and find Shockwave Flash in the list. The Flash version number is displayed after versions . If Firefox won’t start, search your computer for NPSWF32 or NPSWF64 . Multiple files can be found, but note the file’s version number, which has multiple underscores.

Internet Explorer (IE)

Click the gear button in Internet Explorer to open the menu, then select » Manage add-ons» . Select Shockwave Flash Object then look for the Flash version number at the bottom of the screen.

If you don’t see the Flash item in the list of add-ons, select drop-down arrow list » Show» and select » All add-ons» .

edge

Finding the Flash version in Edge is identical to how you do it in Chrome: in the address bar, type edge: // components and find Adobe Flash Player in the list. The Flash version number is displayed next to this entry.

If Edge doesn’t open far enough to go to the components page, search your computer for the file pepflashplayer.dll . It will be in a subfolder edge which is located in folder Microsoft . The DLL file itself is stored in a folder with the Flash version number.

Safari

AT menu safari select » Settings» . Go to tab » Web sites » and find chapter » Plugins «. Under Adobe Flash Player is the Flash version number.

For Mac OS X 10.10 or earlier, go to safari > » Settings» > » Safety» and select » Settings module» or » Website settings management, to see the Flash version.

Flash browser support

All main used today browsers work differently with Flash, making it difficult to update them if you use multiple browsers.

Other browsers not listed generally follow the same rules as Mozilla Firefox.
