When you check Gmail on new messages, you can skip some if they are between the ones you have already read. That’s why it makes sense to make sure you’re only viewing unread mail. There are two ways to see only your unread emails in Gmail. No matter which one you choose, you will only see messages that (1) you have not yet opened, and (2) you have opened, and then marked as unread .
Make Gmail Show Unread Emails First
You can set Gmail to show unread messages at the top of your inbox. Here’s how.

In Gmail, in the upper right corner of the screen, select » Settings» (gear icon). From the dropdown select » Settings» . If a tab » inbox » not yet displayed, select « Inbox» .

In chapter Folder type » Inbox» first select » Unread» in the drop down menu.

In chapter » inbox » select the options you want from the drop-down menu. You can choose to show 50 unread items at a time. You can also hide chapter unread, when there are no unread messages.

At the bottom of the screen, select Save Changes .

Back in inbox you will see chapter » Unread ‘ and then the section ‘ All the rest «. You can choose unread, to hide this section.
Search for unread messages
Gmail also makes it easy message search, which are not read in any label.

On the left guide, select any label you want to search for.

In the search bar at the top of the screen, you will see label:XX, where XX is the title of your label. Without deleting this text, enter : unread after him. So, if your label is called «work», the entire search term should be tagged: work: unread .
Don’t forget to include a space after your shortcut name.

To submit a search, click Enter on keyboard. All unread emails will appear in this label. Everything else in the label is temporarily hidden. To see everything in the folder again, delete : unread and press Enter .
