If you’ve decided to sell your Amazon Echo or give it to someone to play with, here’s how to factory reset it so it’s ready for a new owner.

The Amazon Echo uses the old reset setup method where you push a paperclip into a small hole to activate the reset button. Most hardware devices these days are reset at the software level, but the Echo uses a tried and true method that completely erases itself with the click of a button.
First, find a paperclip and straighten it so that part of it sticks out and points. Next, find a very small hole on the underside of your Amazon Echo.

Insert a paperclip into the hole and press down. You will feel a click, like pressing a button. Hold for five seconds.
After you press the reset button, the light ring on the echo will turn orange for about a minute.
