With Nest Secure, you have a set amount of time between arming the system and leaving the house, or between entering your home and disarming the system. Here’s how to set up this time window.

RELATED: How to install and configure Nest Secure Security System

By default, this window is set to one minute for signing out and signing in. You can change these settings individually to either 30 seconds or five minutes.

Start by opening the Nest app on your phone and tap the Settings button (gear icon) in the top right corner of the screen.

Click «Security» at the bottom of the list.

On the Security page, tap the Alarm Settings setting.

In the «Alarm Countdown» section, you can change two settings: «When returning home» and «When leaving». The first one is for setting the alarm delay when you get home. Therefore, when you open the door, you have one minute to disarm the system, otherwise the alarm will go off. The last option is for setting the alarm delay when you leave. Thus, after you arm the system, you have one minute to leave and close all doors before the system actually arm itself. Click on any of the settings to change the delay.

You have five options to choose from: 30 seconds, 45 seconds, one minute, three minutes, and five minutes. Choose the one that works best for you. However, «On Departure» doesn’t have a 45-second option for some reason, so keep that in mind.

After choosing a new time, it automatically saves the new settings and you can exit the app. From there, Nest Secure uses the new alarm delay time.
