What should be updated?
A big part of the reason to upgrade to a new PSVR is HDR pass-through technology, but here we’ll go over what features you’ll need to make it worthwhile.
Do you have PS4 Pro?
While there are games that will run on HDR on a regular PS4, to get the full experience, you’ll need a PS4 Pro and an enhanced version of some games. If you don’t have a PS4 Pro then you don’t need to update.
The HDR Pass allows you to watch and play HDR games on your HDR TV without turning off your PSVR to do so, which is what you currently need. This brings us to the next important question.
Do you have an HDR TV?
While 4K TVs are becoming more common in the market, HDR is still a fairly new technology. Chances are you don’t have an HDR TV yet, so you don’t need to update your PSVR right now. If you are looking for a new TV then definitely consider getting a 4K HDR TV to help you in the future.
If you have an HDR TV, then the new PSVR could very well be a worthy upgrade, but only if you already have a PS4. Two are really needed to make this a worthwhile purchase.
So you’re saying you don’t update?
