The Gear VR is one of the more affordable VR headsets available, and it also comes with a pretty comfortable fit. Before diving directly into virtual reality, you need to adjust the headset so that it sits properly on your head. After all, who wants to start enjoying VR just to move their head and the headset comes off their face? This way you guarantee that this will never happen.
Adjust straps
The main thing you need to do is adjust the straps on your headset. Gear VR has 2 straps that you can mess with. The first is attached with Velcro at the top of the headset, and the second is attached to the left and right of the headset with Velcro. You need to put the headset on and hold it in place.
Once you have the headset in the ideal position with one hand, you will use your other hand to adjust the straps. They can be a little tense and disorienting at first because you don’t really see what you’re doing. It’s not hard though. All you have to do is adjust the straps according to your preference.
Your headset should be tightly pressed against your face and should not move when you turn your head. If it wobbles, you’ll probably want to tighten it up a bit. This can be tricky if you wear glasses because you need to make sure the headset is secure without hurting yourself from getting glasses up your nose. If this is your first time using the Gear VR, you may need to focus the Gear VR to avoid blur.
If you’re having trouble getting the headset to fit snugly on the front of your face, you can also tag a friend and ask them to tighten the straps. It is important that it is firm and fits snugly around the face without feeling particularly tight. You will be looking around and, depending on experience, moving around a bit, so you want the headset to stay exactly where you put it.
Why is it important
A secure fit on the Gear VR is more important than you might think when you first try it. While your headset slips and falls while you’re sitting in your living room playing a game, it can make things worse, but it’s not the biggest deal ever. However, places like Six Flags have started to use VR roller coasters using Gear VR. Make sure your headset is secure so you don’t lose it while speeding 70 mph over hills and through loops.
While most people will probably never experience one of these Gear VR stands, the same theory applies at home as well. You want a snug fit that won’t slip off your face if you tilt the projectile or turn around to make sure you see everything around you.
Step by step instructions
- Bring the headset to your face where you want it to sit.
- With your other hand, tighten the straps on the sides and top of the Gear VR.
- Remove your hands and move your head to make sure it’s a tough fight
- Adjust again if necessary.
