You can play Daydream using Gear VR
It seems crazy to play games designed for one headset in a completely different one. While it’s true that a certain number of users will be able to play Daydream using Gear VR, there are definitely a few hoops you’ll need to jump through first.
Namely, you’ll need some kind of packet switch to keep Oculus from launching when you plug your phone into the Gear VR headset. The best way to do this is to install the Run Cardboard app, which will let you play card games on the Gear VR. Luckily, it will also help you play Daydream games.
It works?
This is a slightly tricky question. See, this method will allow you to launch and use Daydream as long as your Daydream controller is charged and paired with your phone. From the inside of the Gear VR headset, though, things look a bit odd.
Theoretically, there is a way to fix the distortion using a Gear VR QR code. The problem is that if you use this code, you will get an error that the Gear VR is not a compatible headset. This means that for some people, distortion when playing Daydream on Gear VR will become a barrier.
Although in terms of actual functionality, playing Daydream on Gear VR works great. You can easily use your controller and set up without running into any issues, as long as your controller has a solid connection and a good charge when going into VR.
How to open Daydream on Gear VR
- open Run Cardboard
- Click to enable cardboard mode .
- Reload telephone .
- Open daydream app on your phone.
- Press virtual reality icon in the lower right corner.
- Wait until it starts Daydream menu . (This may take a few minutes, please be patient).
- Insert your phone into Gear VR headset and enjoy!
