If you live in a bilingual household, you are likely to switch between the two languages during the day. Google Assistant can now seamlessly transition between the two languages, offering a more familiar feel in bilingual homes.

Currently, Google Assistant can switch between two of the five supported languages - English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Japanese. Support for more languages will be available in the coming months. So, let’s say you created your helper for the English language. With this recent update, you can add one of the other compatible languages as an optional one. Here’s how to do it.

First, open the Google Home app on your phone (this works for both iOS and Android). Open the menu, and then select the «Advanced Settings» command.

On the settings page, click «Settings» and then click «Assistant Languages».

Finally, click the Add Language button and then select your secondary language (or possibly your native language if English is your second language).

From now on, you will be able to speak with your assistant in both languages, even switching between the two commands. The assistant will respond accordingly, answering you in the language you used to run the command.
