By default, when you say «Alexa» next to Echo Show, a blue line is displayed on the screen. If you prefer something more obvious, you can have your echo show play a sound every time you call it.

Alexa can make a faint noise when you start talking to Alexa and when you finish your request. This is handy if you want to make an Alexa request without looking at your device, such as when you’re cooking and need to focus on what you’re doing. Both sound effects are found in the settings menu on the Echo Show. To find it, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Settings.

Scroll down to the Settings menu and click Sounds.

Scroll to the bottom of the list of settings and tap Start Query, End Query, or both. Whatever you prefer.

From now on, whenever you say «Alexa», you should hear a prompt when Alexa starts listening.
