Previously, we got acquainted with several top versions of the Radeon RX 6600 XT, including the ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 6600 XT. Now we have a more affordable version of the ASUS Dual Radeon RX 6600 XT OC Edition in our hands. We will talk about its features and potential for overclocking in this review. At the same time, we will conduct a new performance comparison with the GeForce RTX 3060 in the updated list of gaming applications.

The video card comes in a small box without additional accessories.
The main feature of ASUS Dual video cards is the use of a cooling system with two fans. But in the case of the Radeon RX 6600 XT, even the top-end ASUS ROG Strix get by with a couple of fans. The Dual does not have RGB-lit elements and dual BIOS. ASUS Dual is covered with a plastic casing with a surface stylized as brushed metal.
The DUAL-RX6600XT-O8G and ROG-STRIX-RX6600XT-O8G-GAMING have the same length, which is 24 cm. The top-end graphics card is a couple of millimeters thicker.
The reverse side of the video card is covered with a metal plate. There are no slots in the side of the backplate.
In the corner is an eight-pin power connector.
There are three DisplayPort ports and one HDMI on the rear panel.
The dual-fan shroud can be easily removed without dismantling the heatsink or damaging the warranty seal. This is very convenient if you need to clean the device from dust — they removed the casing, blew it, screwed it back. Fans of size 100 mm (impeller diameter 95 mm) are made using Axial-tech technology. Curved blades with an outer ring provide increased airflow for better airflow.
All elements on the board are covered with one single radiator.
The heatsink is the same design as in the ASUS ROG Strix, but uses only three heat pipes. Heat from the graphics chip is dissipated through a flat base. Around the base is a large area for contact with memory chips. On the sides are contact pads for power elements VRM.
The backplate is also involved in cooling. The plate removes heat from the hot zones of the board through thermal pads on the textolite.
The Dual PCB is made in the same design with the ROG Strix. The processor is powered by eight phases, the memory is powered by two.
The Navi 23 GPU operates 2048 stream processors with a 128-bit memory interface. Eight gigabytes of memory is provided by four Samsung K4ZAF325BM-HC16 chips.
The prefix OC in the name of the video card hints at factory overclocking. The acceleration is modest: the base frequency is increased from 1968 to 2000 MHz, the Game Clock is increased from 2359 to 2382 MHz, Boost CLock is increased from 2589 to 2593 MHz. The effective memory frequency is 16000 MHz.
The actual frequencies in the game mode are lower than those of ASUS ROG Strix or MSI Gaming. In the long 3DMark Time Spy stress test, the processor ran in the 2400-2480 MHz range, in the Red Dead Redemption 2 periodic test closer to 2550 MHz. This is about 150 MHz lower than the ASUS ROG Strix. The peak point of Boost was 2644 MHz.
In gaming tests, the maximum temperature did not exceed 59-60 ° C with a fan speed of 1800-1900 rpm. With a core chip temperature of 59°C, the Hot Spot reached 76°C. Everything is at the level of ASUS ROG Strix, but the top model also has a second firmware with a quieter fan control algorithm.
You can try to manually limit the fan speed for quiet operation. But in the AMD software settings, changes in the fan algorithm were not applied. Through MSI Afterburnber, it was possible to fix the speed at the same level. At 1400 rpm, the long 3DMark Time Spy stress test did not warm the core above 65 ° C on the main sensor.
Our overclocking configuration is shown in the screenshot below. The base frequency is increased to 2330 MHz with Game Clock 2570 MHz and Boost Clock up to 2810 MHz. The memory is accelerated to 2250 MHz (18000 MHz).
The results are slightly below Strix’s maximum scores.
Real frequencies strongly depended on the load. In 3DMark Time Spy they varied in the range of 2580-2700 MHz, in Red Dead Redemption 2 they were closer to 2740 MHz. There were also several failures, therefore, the video card is working at its limit and it is better to lower the maximum frequencies a little. ASUS ROG Strix overclocked showed more stable frequencies at around 2750 MHz.
GPU temperatures reached 61°C with fan speeds up to 2300 rpm in the most severe tests. These are the temperature and noise characteristics in an open case. Inside a cramped enclosure or in a warm room, heat and noise will be higher in summer.
Based on the results, we can say that the nominal and overclocked frequencies are lower than those of previously tested video cards. That is, ASUS DUAL-RX6600XT-O8G shows the standard level of performance characteristic of the Radeon RX 6600 XT series.
