The GeForce RTX 2070 closes the top three Turing architecture graphics cards, with the most affordable price and fairly high performance. On the pages of our site, we have already got acquainted with several models of this series, another video card is next in line. This is Inno3D GeForce RTX 2070 Gaming OC X2 (N20702-08D6X-2511683) with factory overclocking and good cooling. Let’s compare its capabilities with a simple version of the GeForce RTX 2070 and past generation video cards at 2560×1440 and 3840×2160 resolutions.
Inno3D GeForce RTX 2070 Gaming OC X2
Supplied in a medium sized box.
The times when manufacturers bundled their products with additional accessories have gradually become a thing of the past. But Inno3D does not skimp on pleasant bonuses for the buyer. Inside the box there is a branded mat and codes for 3DMark and VRMark test programs, plus a software disk and brief instructions.

The video adapter seems small compared to the large-sized GeForce RTX models. The length of this accelerator fits into 27 cm, and the cooling occupies only two slots. Many manufacturers have begun equipping the GeForce RTX with three-slot cooling, and Inno3D also has a GeForce RTX 2070 iChill X3 Jekyll with a more massive cooler.

The black body is complemented by bright orange inserts. The company logo is in the center.

The reverse side is protected by a metal plate. On the surface there is a geometric pattern made in the general visual style.

On the side of the cooler there are large inscriptions Inno3D and GeForce RTX. In the corner there are two power connectors — six and eight pins.

In working condition, the Inno3D side logo and colored central inserts on the front of the casing are illuminated.

The set of connectors on the rear panel is standard: three DisplayPort, one HDMI and one VirtualLink (USB Type-C).
A single cooling system is used for all components. One heatsink removes heat from the GPU, power cell memory chips.

As for the power supply unit, in addition to contact with transistors, contact with chokes is also implemented. And if in some video cards the corresponding thermal pad rests against the radiator fins, then here they are bent and form a special platform for full contact over the entire contact area.

There is a copper plate at the base for contact with the GPU. Four flattened heat pipes are soldered on top of the plate, which are covered by an array of plates.

A two-piece, quad-tube heatsink doesn’t sound like much, but for a GeForce GTX 1080 TDP card, it’s enough.

You can better estimate the dimensions of the heatsink from the photo against the background of the board.

A shroud with two 90 mm fans (85 mm blades) is screwed to the radiator. Fan marking CF9015H12S. The backlight is connected with a separate cable, the board with LEDs is hidden in the area between the fans.

Reference RTX 2070s use a shorter PCB, but Inno3D’s board design inherits the older GeForce RTX with enhanced power.

The power system has ten phases.

The TU106-400A-A1 processor is surrounded by a protective frame.
Eight gigabytes of memory is provided by eight Micron chips marked 8RA77 D9WCW.
The video adapter operates at higher frequencies. With a base core frequency of 1410 MHz, the average Boost Clock is increased to 1755 MHz. The effective memory frequency is equivalent to 14 GHz.
The actual level of Boost frequencies is above average. In Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition at 4K, the core worked in the range of 1830-1900 MHz (bottom left screenshot), and in the Shadow of the Tomb Raider tests, the frequencies did not drop below 1860 MHz (bottom right screenshot). Under gaming load, the video adapter warmed up to 68 ° C, which is an excellent indicator for a powerful high-end graphics card. Such temperatures are comparable to those of the GeForce RTX 2070, equipped with three-slot cooling. However, this efficiency of Inno3D comes at the expense of high RPMs. The fans were spinning up to 2200 rpm, creating a clear noise.
Operating temperatures are far from the limit, so there is still room for cooling to slow down the fans. We did a little test, fixing the speed at 1700 rpm. In this mode, the Final Fantasy XV benchmark warmed up the core to 77 °C. As a result, the video card did not reach the temperature limit of 81 ° C, and the noise level became comfortable. The average frequency level dropped slightly, there were drawdowns up to 1800-1815 MHz, although the results in Final Fantasy XV remained unchanged.
With simple manipulations, you can easily achieve a comfortable operating mode with low noise. But it is necessary to take into account gentle test conditions: an open stand, 22 ° C indoors. Inside the case in the summer heat, the heating will be noticeably higher. And the manufacturer, to a certain extent, secured himself by providing good airflow so that the cooling was effective under any external conditions.
Inno3D graphics accelerators are equipped with the TuneIT utility, which monitors and allows you to change operating parameters.

Among the features of the utility is backlight control, where the color and visual effects of the glow are set.
Acceleration is available in a simplified mode, when the user simply sets the acceleration to 2, 5 or 10 percent. And without fail there are full manual settings for controlling frequencies, fans and other parameters.

As a result of overclocking experiments, we stopped at +70 MHz relative to the entry-level GPU. Along the way, the power limit was increased, in this case it is + 8% to the initial level.
In Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition, the average frequency level was close to 1950-1960 MHz with drawdowns up to 1905 MHz. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the frequencies are slightly higher, drawdowns are no more than 1935 MHz. Peak Boost value up to 2070 MHz. The memory is accelerated to 15722 MHz (7861 MHz in the screenshots).
Overclocking requires better cooling, which comes with additional noise. At a fixed fan speed of 2400 rpm, the core did not heat up above 70 °C.
Such overclocking can be called typical for good non-reference versions. For example, the ASUS DUAL-RTX2070-O8G video adapter showed similar frequencies. And the simplest option from MSI in the face of the GeForce RTX 2070 Armor 8G turned out to be worse in terms of core, but slightly better in terms of memory overclocking. At the same time, in terms of GPU frequencies, Inno3D is only slightly inferior to MSI Armor in overclocking.
