We continue our acquaintance with budget ASUS video cards. Next in line is the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti from the Cerberus series. Despite the loud name, this is one of the simple GeForce GTX 1050 Ti models from ASUS. Let’s look at its features, test it for overclocking, compare it with the younger ASUS Dual GeForce GTX 1050 video card and solutions of the previous generation.

The video card comes in a small box without additional adapters and any accessories.

A visual inspection immediately recognizes a copy of the ASUS Dual GeForce GTX 1050. The same small board and a two-slot cooling system with two fans. All the difference between the two models is in the color inserts on the body — the Cerberus GeForce GTX 1050 Ti has red ones.

If there are two fans under them, you can see a noticeably smaller heatsink that could easily block one fan.

Cerberus has a plate that covers the back of the board. Unfortunately, this is a decorative plastic element that does not contribute to cooling. The video card does not have an external power connector.

Three ports are provided for image output: DisplayPort, HDMI and DVI.

Let’s take a closer look at the cooling system. This is a complete copy of the cooler that we saw on the ASUS Dual GeForce GTX 1050.

A simple one-piece radiator with divergent fins is used. A standard design that can be seen on many other budget graphics cards. Two 80mm fans seem like overkill against the background of such a heatsink, but this improves the air flow to the elements on the board.

For clarity, here is a photo of a bare heatsink on the board.

When examining the board, we can state the complete identity between ASUS Cerberus GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and Dual GeForce GTX 1050.

The graphics processor is powered by a three-phase voltage converter.

The GP107-400-A1 processor operates with a full configuration of computing units of 768 CUDA cores. Four gigabytes of memory are filled with four SKHynix H5GC8H24MJR R0C chips, and judging by the markings, these chips are designed for a maximum frequency of 7 GHz. It is worth paying attention to, because further we will see a low overclocking of these GDDR5 modules.

ASUS CERBERUS-GTX1050TI-O4G runs at higher frequencies. The GPU is accelerated from 1290 MHz to 1342 MHz at the base frequency with an average Boost Clock of 1455 MHz. Effective memory frequency 7008 MHz.

The actual Boost frequencies in game mode are close to 1709 MHz, which can be seen below in the screenshot of the load during the Final Fantasy XV benchmark replay. In some games, there are more significant drawdowns, in the World of Tanks enCore test up to 1683-1671 MHz.

During operation on an open bench, the core temperature did not exceed 64 °C (it was 22 °C indoors). The fan speed was about 1700 rpm, while the noise was low. Quite standard characteristics for simple video cards of the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti series.

Let’s move on to acceleration. Initially, we have variable Boost at low temperatures, therefore, performance is limited by the power limit. This limit is fixed for an increase, therefore, although overclocking the core increases the overall level of frequencies, it will not receive a serious increase due to drawdowns. In general, the result of the GPU turned out to be quite standard: the base frequency is 1462 MHz with a peak Boost up to 1936 MHz.

Real Boost kept in the range of 1785-1823 MHz. The potential of GDDR5 turned out to be low, we had to stop at an effective frequency of 7480 MHz. In the lower screenshots, slightly different memory values \u200b\u200bthat were selected during the testing process. After all, even at 7480 MHz there was no complete stability; for permanent use, the memory overclocking would have to be slightly reduced.

For better cooling at higher frequencies, the fan speed in manual mode rose to 1900 rpm. This made it possible to keep the heating at the initial level with a low noise level. An unpleasant hum from these fans occurs at speeds of 2000 rpm and above.

In order to compare ASUS Cerberus with an analogue of the reference video adapter of the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti series, we lowered the base frequency by 50 MHz.
