If you’re like me and turn on your porch lights after sunset, it’s sometimes easy to forget to do it every night. However, if you have a Wink hub and a smart light bulb or smart switch, you can turn your porch lights on and off automatically according to a sunset and sunrise schedule.
RELATED: How to Schedule Your Lights with Wink
We have covered how to do something similar in the past, but this involves setting a specific time for the lights to turn on and off. And since the sun sets and rises at different times of the year (mainly due to daylight saving time), setting a specific schedule is not the best method when it comes to street lighting. Instead, it’s better to automatically control lighting based on when the sun rises and sets.
The Wink app has a new Moonlight feature that automatically turns on all lights when it gets dark outside. It is mainly intended for users who want to come home to a well-lit home at night, instead of fiddling with light switches when entering. However, Moonlight is also great for automatically turning on the lights on my porch when it gets dark, so I’ll use that as an example in this guide.
To get started, open the Wink app on your smartphone and tap the menu button in the top left corner of the screen.
Next, tap the «Light + Power» option.
Select the «Services» tab at the top.
Click «Settings» in the «Moonlight» field.
