By default, the Nest Guard (which acts as the main keyboard for the Nest Secure security system) acts as a motion sensor and sounds an alarm if it detects motion. However, if you prefer it to act like a keyboard and nothing else, here’s how to disable motion detection.

To do this, open the Nest app and tap the settings icon in the top right corner of the screen.

Select «Security» at the bottom.

Click on the nest guard near the bottom. In my case it is called «Entryway».

Select Motion Detection.

Click on the toggle switch to turn it off.

At this point, your Nest Guard will simply act as a keyboard and will no longer function as a motion sensor. Keep in mind that the keyboard still lights up when it detects motion — so it’s not completely disabled — but it no longer has a say in regards to the alarm.
