It’s a common problem these days: you think you’re friends with someone, only to suspect that they’ve blocked you from facebook messenger or another application. You can check if you’re blocked on Messenger, but not on Facebook on your smartphone, tablet or computer. While there is no clear confirmation that someone has blocked you, there are a few telltale signs to look for, but they are just as good.
These instructions apply to the Messenger website and mobile app.
How to tell if someone has blocked you on Messenger: Mobile
The easiest way to check if you are blocked in messenger, but not on Facebook, use the mobile app and check if the message gets through.

If it doesn’t, you can check if the person is still on Facebook. If they are, then they only blocked you on Messenger.
-
While in the Messenger app, tap the search bar and enter your friend’s name.
-
Click on your friend’s name when it appears in search results.
-
Enter your message in the text field at the bottom of the screen and click button send .
If the message is sent normally, your friend hasn’t blocked you on Messenger. But if they tell you Message not sent » and what » This person is not receiving messages at this time «, which also means:
- You have been blocked on Messenger, but not on Facebook.
- You have been blocked on Facebook itself.
- Your friend has deactivated his account.
It’s also possible that you won’t receive the message at all. However, the intended recipient will not receive your message and will not be able to reply. Therefore, if you do not receive a response, you may be blocked.
Either way, your next step is to determine which of these possibilities apply. Open the Facebook app and search for your friend’s name. If they show up in search results after entering their name, then they may have blocked you on Facebook Messenger, but not on Facebook. But if your friend’s account doesn’t show up, it doesn’t necessarily mean they have blocked you on Facebook as well. They could have deactivated their account.
