The Apple TV+ channel on the TV app comes with original shows, movies, and documentaries. If you have a subscription, you may want to download one or two movies to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to play through on your commute.
How to Download Apple TV+ Shows and Movies on iPhone or iPad
You’ll need a subscription to stream and download shows from Apple TV+. It costs $4.99 per month, but if you’ve recently bought an Apple device, you’ll get a free one-year Apple TV+ subscription.
Once you have subscribed, go to the main page of the TV app. You’ll see the Apple TV+ channel as one of the sections (along with other movies, TV shows, channels).
To find a TV show or movie to download, click on the Search tab in the bottom toolbar.
Here, find the title and click on it to open the detail page.
Here you can scroll through the list of episodes and click on the little «Download» button to start the download.
When you click on an episode’s title, you’ll see a more prominent «Download» button below the «Play Episode» button.
The download will start in the background.
Compared to the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime, the offline feature on the TV app is very limited. There are basically no settings to change.
You can’t download anything using cellular data, so you’ll need to be connected to Wi-Fi. Also, the iOS and iPadOS apps do not allow you to select the video quality. The app will automatically download the file that best suits your device.

The app also lacks a Downloads section. Therefore, to track downloads of episodes and pause them, go to the «Library» section and click the «Downloaded» button.
Here, select the show that is currently loading.
On this page you will see a list of downloadable episodes. Click on the «Stop» button next to the title to stop the download process.
To delete a downloaded episode or movie, swipe left on the title and click the Delete button.
In the next pop-up window, click «Remove Download» to confirm.
How to Download Apple TV+ Shows and Movies on Mac
If you’d rather watch the show on the big screen of your Mac (or a connected monitor), you can also download the show for offline viewing on your computer.
Open the TV app on your Mac running macOS Catalina. Find the show you want to download in the Watch Now section or by using the search tool located on the top toolbar.
Here, find the episode and then click on it to open the show page.
You can now browse through the seasons and click on an episode to select it.
Here, click on the «Download» button to start the download.
You can track downloads by clicking the Downloads button on the top toolbar.
Here you can click the «Pause» button to stop the download. To pause all downloads, click the Pause Downloads button at the bottom of the window.
If you want to remove a download from the Downloads menu, you can simply right-click on the title of the episode and click on the «Delete» button.
You can also delete a movie or TV show from the Library tab. Here, click the «Downloaded» button in the sidebar and click on the title.
On the details page, find the episode to delete, and then click the Menu button.
From the menu, click «Remove from Library» to delete the episode.
Unlike apps for iOS and iPadOS, the TV app on Mac allows you to change download options.
Click the «TV» button in the menu bar, and then click the «Preferences» button. Alternatively, you can use Command +; Keyboard shortcut to quickly open the application settings menu.
Here, in the «Playback» section, click the dropdown next to «Download Quality». You can switch between Up to HD, Up to SD, and Most Compatible Format. Select Up to SD to save disk space.
