MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Suprim X 12G are representatives of the new GeForce RTX 3080 line. This version received an increased amount of memory, a 384-bit bus and more active GPU computing units. Factory overclocking and high-quality cooling provide MSI Suprim with additional acceleration. The video card is aimed at gamers and has a hardware performance limiter in Ethereum mining.

A test walk along a fixed route at the first location was repeated. Several repetitions in each mode.

All participants show excellent performance. Top MSI Suprim solutions are capable of providing 100 or more frames. At the same time, even the simplest version of the GeForce RTX 3080 is faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT, but the GeForce RTX 3070 is slightly inferior to the Radeon RX 6800. The video memory download is less than 7 gigabytes.

Let’s go to the 4K format.

Here, GeForce RTX 3080 is a necessity if you want to play with performance of 60 frames and more. The advantage of the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Suprim X 12G over the simple version of the GeForce RTX 3080 is 9%. In the test scene, the game downloads about 8 gigabytes, in other scenes it can use more than 9 gigabytes.

Comparison of AMD FSR and Nvidia DLSS

Thanks to the scaling technologies, you can increase the performance in heavy modes. Nvidia DLSS 2.0 uses AI technology to build the frame using temporal sampling and motion vector prediction. AMD FSR is conventional scaling with additional sharpening filters.

God of War clearly shows the input resolution when choosing different DLSS or FSR quality. At 4K, the highest quality FSR Ultra Quality mode uses 2954×1662 pixels, FSR Ultra uses 2560×1440. DLSS Quality mode assumes an input resolution of 2560×1440.

With DLSS and FSR, it is possible to reach 60 frames even on the GeForce RTX 3070 and Radeon RX 6800. In the case of the GeForce RTX 3080, the performance reaches 80-90 frames.

Conclusions

If you want to enjoy the beautiful northern landscapes and fierce battles of God of War in 4K, the best solution is the GeForce RTX 3080 series video cards. Maximum comfort will be provided by the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Suprim X 12G, which is equipped with powerful cooling and works with factory acceleration. This graphics card is 8-9% faster than the older version GeForce RTX 3080 with less memory. If we compare identical frequency versions of MSI Suprim, the difference between GeForce RTX 3080 with different amount of video buffer is 4%. And since 10 GB is quite enough for the game for the maximum resolution, this difference is entirely due to the different configuration of the GPU and the memory bus.

GeForce RTX 3080 video cards confidently bypass Radeon RX 6800 XT. However, the younger Radeon RX 6800 slightly wins over the GeForce RTX 3070. The latter shows excellent results in the 2560×1440 format, but weak for 4K. In combination with scaling, they are able to provide a comfortable frame rate. AMD FSR and Nvidia DLSS quality modes show little difference from the original 4K format. It is worth noting some advantages of DLSS in the representation of small elements. Therefore, you can safely use high-quality DLSS modes with high resolution on GeForce RTX video cards. The advantage of AMD FSR is the availability of the technology for all more or less current video cards, including previous generations. When choosing fast scaling profiles or with reduced resolution, the loss of image quality will be more noticeable, but this compromise can be justified for video cards of the lower price segment.
