In anticipation of the reviews of new NVIDIA video cards, we decided to return to the confrontation between the previously released older models GeForce RTX 3080 and Radeon RX 6800 XT. Earlier this year, we reviewed ASUS TUF-RTX3080-O10G-GAMING and ASUS TUF-RX6800XT-O16G-GAMING graphics cards. Now let’s bring them together again, expanding the list of test applications and modes.
This comparison will be an updated version of previous reviews, in which we will try to evaluate the potential of opponents at different frequencies. To do this, let’s compare video cards at recommended frequencies, at factory settings and at maximum overclocking.

ASUS TUF-RTX3080-O10G-GAMING
The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 OC Edition graphics card is equipped with triple fan cooling. This model is 30 cm long and 5.16 cm thick (2.7 slots). A detailed overview of the design and technical nuances in this review.
ASUS TUF-RTX3080-O10G-GAMING runs at 1785 MHz Boost Clock (1710 MHz default) with 1440 MHz base. The effective memory frequency is 19000 MHz. Power increased from 320 to 340 watts. Real Boost in games kept in the range of 1850-1950 MHz.

For testing in regular GeForce RTX 3080 mode, the base frequency and power limit were reduced.
In overclocking, the video card was accelerated by 170 MHz, which brought Boost closer to 2000 MHz (rare peak values up to 2160 MHz). The memory was overclocked from 19500 MHz to 21052 MHz.
ASUS TUF-RX6800XT-O16G-GAMING
The ASUS TUF Gaming Radeon RX 6800 XT OC Edition video card is 30 cm long and 5.8 cm thick. While externally similar to a competitor, it has its own design features with a single heatsink for all elements on the board. It is blown by three 90 mm fans.
Standard specs call for the Radeon RX 6800 XT to have a base core clock of 1825MHz with Game Clock 2015MHz and Boost Clock 2250MHz. ASUS TUF-RX6800XT-O16G-GAMING runs at Boost Clock 2310 MHz, which corresponds to the accelerated Rage software mode of reference models. The memory data rate is equivalent to 16 GHz.
In games, the real Boost is mostly kept in the range of 2250-2400 MHz. Using software settings, the peak frequency was raised from 2432 to 2600 MHz when the memory was overclocked to 17120 MHz, which is a software limitation for the video buffer.
For tests at normal frequencies, a full-fledged reference model by AMD is used, without the use of ASUS with reduced frequencies.
