The Amazon Echo Dot is one of the cheapest ways to get Alexa into your home, but if you have it just sitting at your desk without much fanfare, there are better, creative ways you can install it.

With so many third-party accessories available, you have plenty of fun ways to mount the Echo Dot, not only to get Alexa to hear you better, but also to keep it out of the way so it doesn’t take up space on your counter or end of the table.

Install a small shelf above the exit

If you want to keep the Echo Dot away from the counters so that it doesn’t get in the way, a very simple solution is to install a small shelf that can be attached to an outlet.

Something like this $10 outlet with a shelf is cheap and great for all sorts of small devices and the Echo Dot would fit perfectly on it. Heck, you could even mount your full size echo on it if you wanted. You can also purchase female mounts that hold the Echo Dot parallel to the wall, which will likely allow the microphones to hear you.

If you feel comfortable, you can also make your own wooden shelf or use a 3D printer if you are really handy, especially if you want to use your own design. Thingiverse has a lot of cool Echo Dot mounts that you can 3D print. And if you don’t have a 3D printer, there are services that will do the job for you.

Stick this in a recessed lighting jar

Recessed lights are great and they make any room look classy. Is there a light that really shouldn’t be there though? Instead, install an Echo Dot in one of these recessed lighting cans.

You can build it yourself with a socket and socket adapter, and then install a flush mount kit to fit in a recessed jar. Obviously, this will require some useful skills, so if you’re not in the mood for it, you can use the Dock Socket ($32) — it’s specifically made for mounting an Echo Dot inside a recessed lighting can.

Keep in mind that you need to constantly turn on the light switch that controls that lighting bay, so this is only really recommended if other recessed fixtures already have smart bulbs installed.

Mount it anywhere on the wall or ceiling

If you want to mount the Echo Dot to a wall or ceiling but have a specific location that you need, you can buy base mounts that can be screwed to a wall or ceiling just about anywhere.

If you want it to be flush with a wall or ceiling, you can use that flush mount kit we linked above, or use something even simpler, like these holders that can be screwed into a wall or ceiling.

If you’re feeling really cheap, you can use 3M Command Strips and place them on the back of the Echo Dot. From there, just stick it wherever you want.

Don’t forget that you still need to route the power cable to the Echo Dot, so be sure to think about how you route the cable so that it doesn’t get in the way or look too unsightly.

Hide it in plain sight

If you don’t want to mount the Echo Dot somewhere special and would rather just keep it on the counter or end of the table, you can at least hide it in plain sight.

A great way to do this is to stick it into a sort of Echo Dot vase. This cute fox Echo Dot holder not only gives you room for an Echo Dot, but can also be a great conversation piece. And that is not all .

Amazon even sells their own Echo Dot cases, like a fabric case that at least makes your Echo Dot feel more homey and doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb.
