Ahead of the release of the latest Amazon Echo devices, and perhaps more importantly to compete with Google Assistant’s simple smart home controls, Amazon has updated its Alexa mobile app with a greater focus on the smart home in general.

For example, the Smarthome section of the app has moved from a sidebar dropdown menu to its own dedicated tab at the bottom of the screen.

Once selected, you’ll see a brand new interface to control and manage not only your Echo devices, but all of your SmartHome products. Each type of SmartHome device is divided into a separate category at the top of the screen. And your groups are listed below, making it easy to select a room and manage the devices in that room.

In this section of the app, you can also add new SmartHome devices to control with Alexa, and create and manage groups, including multi-room music groups for your Echos.

This new update is already available for iOS devices, but there is no word yet on whether the Android update will be coming soon or not.
