Additional iOS notification settings for Gmail
Once you’ve enabled notifications, there are a few more settings you can adjust to get as many or as few alerts as possible. Here’s what you can control.
See notifications on the lock screen and while using your phone
For more alerts outside of Notification Center, tap Options Screen lock and Banners under heading Alerts . The first setting allows you to see your incoming Gmail messages without unlocking your iPhone. The second opens a window on your phone when you use another app.

You can also customize the behavior of banners. Click » Banner Style» to access two options: » Temporarily» and » Constantly» . Temporary means the banners will disappear after a while, while permanent means they will stay on the screen until you tap or swipe them.

Customize sounds and icons for Gmail notifications
Switches Sounds and Badges manage additional alerts for your notifications in Gmail. Sounds plays a sound to alert you to a notification. «Icons» puts the number on the app’s icon on the home screen.
